Every Child - One Voice
Hello, welcome to the PTA link for Knollwood Preparatory Academy. Your online source for PTA related information. My name is Heather Blanco and I am the 2015-2016 PTA President.
MEETINGS:
We hold meetings with parents the 1st Thursday of every month (subject to change). Dinner and childcare are provided to encourage participation. Parent involvement is a crucial part of your child’s Knollwood Preparatory School experience. I encourage all of you to join the PTA during the membership drive, which is held at the beginning of the school year.
COSTS/FUNDRAISING:
Knollwood's PTA does not exist to fundraise, but it does fundraise to exist. We appreciate our family's gracious financial support and understand resources are often limited. We host fundraisers only as needed, including a fall catalog sale and the annual Spring Fling. We also sponsor functions, like our annual Halloween Parade, Staff Recognition, Student Awards and related events. All funds raised by the PTA assist our school with field trips ($4,500.00/annual), physical education programs ($13,000.00/part-time annual cost), programs for the arts ($5,000.00/budget permitting), and any additional needs of the school ($5,000-8,000 per year).
ENGLANDER $50,000.00 DONATION:
In the Fall 2014, City Councilman Mitch Englander directed proceeds from a local landfill lawsuit to several area PTAs. The lump sum total will equal up to $50,000.00 over the next 3 years in reimbursed costs. Our PTA must pay UPFRONT and then get reimbursed by the city. We can only purchase materials. No labor and no services are allowed. The reimbursement requirements by the City of LA have presented a challenge in designing a contract that would ensure we met the guidelines required by the city. Our membership approved guidelines met for the contract details in the Fall 2015. We will announce our final contract terms as they become available.
COMMUNICATIONS:
We reach out to parents about once per week to provide updates on academic and fun events at our school. If you want to join our email blast, please do so by filling out the form below. We also are present on Facebook at www.facebook.com/knollwoodpa. Be sure to look for banners around school and the monthly calendar from the office to learn what is happening.
The PTA exists solely for the wellbeing of every student, and our goal is to provide the children of Knollwood with a memorable education experience.
